What Is the California Assembly Bill 1278 and Why Is It Important? OR who does it affect?

This bill affects HCPs, and anybody associated with the HCPs such as a pharmaceutical company or an employer of that HCP. The signing of this bill requires more transparency related to spends associated with the HCPs. The physicians or surgeons will be required to provide access to their open payments database.

HCPs working in an emergency room

• Not required to present patients with the notice of open payments.

HCPs working for a healthcare provider

• Healthcare providers will be required to post the notice of open payments on the website, in office and to provide it to patients on their initial visit in an electronic or written format (maintained in electronic or written records).

HCPs Working independently

• Required to post the notice of open payments on the website, in office and to provide it to patients on their initial visit in an electronic or written format (maintained in electronic or written records).
